Notes from a photographer

In 1977 Colombian photographer Jaime's published in a cultural magazine a collection of notes related to photography, art and cinema entitled -Notes from a photographer-. The writing and conceptualization of the notes –as can be intuited in the introduction of the notes– is not a deliberate exercise from the beginning, but arises with the intention of giving order to some "apparently scattered notes" that Jaime rescued from books in several languages, as well from diaries and loose sheets in which he recorded for some years his conception of photography and the exercise of photographing. ● This second edition, published 46 years later, brings together the photographs that Jaime and his colleague Camilo Lleras produced in parallel to the writing and subsequent publication of the notes. The statements in each text manifest obsessions and questions that Ardila and Lleras addressed in their photographic work between the seventies and eighties: from the insistent dispute between photography and painting that resonates in the photographic essays of Colombian painters, to the influence of cinema that transversally crosses their images and can be perceived with great lucidity on Camilo's narrative sequences. 

Notas de un fotógrafo

En 1977 el fotógrafo colombiano Jaime Ardila publicó en una revista cultural una colección de notas relacionadas con la fotografía y el arte titulada -Notas de un fotógrafo-. La redacción y conceptualización de las notas no inicia como un ejercicio deliberado desde el principio, sino que surge con la intención de dar orden a unas "notas aparentemente dispersas" que Jaime rescató de libros, diarios y hojas sueltas en los que dejó constancia de su concepción de la fotografía y del ejercicio de fotografiar. Esta segunda edición, publicada 46 años después, reúne las fotografías que Jaime y su colega Camilo Lleras realizaron en paralelo a la redacción y posterior publicación de las notas. Los enunciados de cada texto manifiestan obsesiones y cuestionamientos que Ardila y Lleras abordaron en su trabajo fotográfico entre los años setenta y ochenta: desde la insistente disputa entre fotografía y pintura, hasta la influencia del cine que atraviesa de forma transversal sus imágenes.
