Fuego camina conmigo

Fuego camina conmigo (Fire walk with me) is a book that responds to the dictum: where there was fire, there will always be fire. Since the early twentieth century, commercial contracts between film distributors and theaters included a clause requiring the destruction of film prints at the end of their exhibition run, along with each film’s promotional material. The easiest way to dispose of this material was to set it on fire in a vacant lot near the theater. From these bonfires, some material escaped—set aside by a cinephile projectionist or diverted by an usher who resold it outside the theater. For the edition of this publication, were printed in risograph 10,000 lobby cards from that contraband archive. On the reverse of each photograph, is printed a scene of fire from a film, fulfilling the dictum that where there was fire, there will always be fire. Each copy is wrapped in an original film poster and includes 28 vintage photographic enlargements. The edition consists of 300 numbered copies, each containing a unique set of images.

Fuego camina conmigo es una publicación que responde a la sentencia: donde hubo fuego siempre habrá fuego. Desde principios del siglo XX, los contratos comerciales entre las distribuidoras de películas y los teatros incluian una cláusula que requería la destrucción de las cintas al final del ciclo de exhibición, junto con el material promocional de cada película. La forma más fácil para destruir este material era prenderle fuego en algún lote baldío cercano al teatro. De estas hogueras escapaba el material que era separado por un proyeccionista cinéfilo o un acomodador que revendía el material fuera del teatro. En la edición de esta publicación se imprimieron en risografía 10.000 lobby-cards que hacen parte de ese contrabando de imágenes. Al respaldo de cada fotografía está impresa la escena de un incendio en una película, para cumplir con la sentencia que donde hubo fuego siempre habrá fuego. Cada publicación está envuelta en el afiche original de una película e incluye 28 ampliaciones fotográficas vintage, para un total de 300 copias numeradas, cada una con imágenes diferentes.
