In Grand Amour, Lin Zhipeng, also known as No.223, stages a series of photographs produced during a short residency inside the Paris hotel of the same name. Created in collaboration with curator Anna Mistal, the project unfolded over the course of three days, during which Lin transformed the hotel’s rooms and corridors into temporary sites of intimacy, performance, and encounter.
Working with Asian models cast through social media, Lin constructs images that move between spontaneity and careful orchestration. Fruits, flowers, birds, mirrors, and gestures of touch recur throughout the series, creating compositions that feel playful and sensual while carrying an underlying emotional tension. Desire, youth, escapism, and vulnerability remain in constant negotiation.
Known for his diaristic approach to photography, Lin has become a defining voice within contemporary Chinese image culture since the early 2000s. His work often explores intimacy, queer desire, friendship, and the emotional textures of everyday life, balancing eroticism with tenderness and melancholy.
