Eric Doeringer’s The Xeroxed Book is a photocopied reproduction of Seth Siegelaub’s seminal artist’s book of 1969 entitled Xerox Book, which featured projects by Carl Andre, Joseph Kosuth, Sol Lewitt, Lawrence Weiner, and other conceptual artists. The original book was designed to be printed using then-new Xerox technology, but this proved to be too expensive and the book was printed on an offset press. Doeringer’s 2010 photocopied version follows Siegelaub’s original format, but as a second-generation copy, it includes dust, page edges, distortion, grain, and other familiar Xerox artifacts, which become as much a part of the reading experience as the artists’ projects.
