Fernando José Pereira: City Alien Attacks

City Aliens Attack from Inside the Museum is a wonderful visual joke by the artist Fernando José Pereira (Porto, 1961), who, in a kind of utopian gesture, recreates the “attack” of different European museums on the cities where they are located. The reflections of the lights simulate hordes of ships or beams from powerful weapons that would invade the city with their promise of art and culture. This work contains a strong sense of melancholy, with a very sharp reflection on the role and identity of museums in the contemporary city.
