“Memories of Light” is published on occasion of the large-scale retrospective exhibition “Daido Moriyama: Memories of Light” at the Shimane Museum of Art (April 12 – June 26, 2023).
Beginning with “Japan, A Photo Theater”, the catalogue orders Moriyama’s photographic work chronologically and embeds it within the artist’s biographical background. Over 200 pages filled with famous and lesser known photographs, “Memories of Light” traces the career of the exceptional Japanese photographer and explores the connections between Moriyama’s life and the works he produced.
In addition to detailed lists and data, the back of the book also includes personal photographs from Daido Moriyama’s family album as well as a statement by the artist and an extensive essay by Shimane Art Museum curator Noriko Tsutatani.
