Apocalípticas was born out of Raquel’s fascination with the women who take center stage in horror films. It is an exploration of women who embody chaos, who frighten, scream, and unsettle. The project reflects on the meaning of the apocalyptic as something dark and mysterious, as an ending, but also as an unveiling or revelation: the act of giving up on goodness, on being “good,” or on everything we have been told we should be.
The publication explores the possibility of being “bad” or of changing, the desire to be frightening, to be alone, to scowl, to scream, and to give things up. To give up on being good. To give up on pleasing others.
The book brings together a series of colored pencil and oil pastel drawings depicting film stills and dialogues spoken by these frightening, unruly women.
