I’m So Happy You Are Here: Japanese Women Photographers from the 1950s to Now (Japanese Edition) is the catalogue accompanying the exhibition まなざしの奇跡 日本女性写真家の冒険. Building on the international success of the original English- and French-language publication, this expanded Japanese edition offers a renewed perspective on the history of Japanese photography through the work of 30 women photographers.
Featuring artists whose practices span from the prewar period to the present, the book brings together extensive reproductions of their work, revised essays, and new contributions that explore the histories and perspectives of women photographers in Japan and across East Asia. It includes a detailed chronology spanning 1926 to 2025, tracing the intersections of photography, art, culture, and social change, alongside essays by researchers from Japan, China, Taiwan, and Korea.
Both an exhibition catalogue and an extensive research resource, this publication reconsiders photographic history through the perspectives of women who have challenged conventions, shaped the medium, and opened up new possibilities for its future.
The Japanese edition is available alongside the original English edition at ICP, in conjunction with the Japanese Women Photographers exhibition.
