Based in Brooklyn, bktafel creates thoughtful furniture informed by an affinity for Japanese and Scandinavian design. Through simplicity of form, natural materials, and attention to everyday rituals, the studio explores how objects can bring a sense of calm and intention into the spaces we inhabit.
This piece feature charred wood, a finish connected to the Japanese tradition of yakisugi, in which the surface of wood is charred to improve its durability. Through fire, the material is transformed and its texture deepens.
