The book traces a movement shaped by the First Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Encuentro, held in Bogotá in 1981, where participants called for the first march against violence against women on November 25. The date later became the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, commemorating the Mirabal sisters, who were murdered under the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo in the Dominican Republic.

The publication also features texts by Flora María Uribe, one of the founders of the feminist magazine Brujas.
